SUPPORT OUR CALL: DEMAND A PLASTICS TREATY THAT PROTECTS OUR HEALTH!
SOON TO BE CRUCIAL NEGOTIATIONS ON GLOBAL PLASTICS TREATY
We are only a few months away from the latest UN negotiations in South Korea on a global plastics treaty. A crucial step in the global fight against plastic pollution.
During these negotiations, we will appeal to international politicians about their responsibility to stop plastic production and protect our health. The risks plastic poses to our health can no longer be ignored. Yet policymakers continue to pander to petrochemical giants. We demand that governments ensure a plastics treaty now that will protect our health. For that, we need you. Help us and sign our appeal. The more people make their voices heard, the stronger our position!
DANGEROUS EFFECTS PLASTIC ON HEALTH
Recent groundbreaking research , led by Professor Thais Mauad, supported by Plastic Soup Foundation, shows how microplastics can enter our brain directly through the nose. This route was considered safe, but now it appears this is not the case. This is very disturbing because the 1000x smaller nanoplastics then also enter our brain. These very particles have the ability to infiltrate cells. The plastic particles come from clothing, packaging and other everyday objects.
The dangerous effects of plastic on our health are beginning to become more and more apparent, plastic cannot enter a body with impunity. Effects to which plastic has been linked include infertility, cancer, cognitive impairment and autoimmune diseases. These new findings really take the cake.
Professor Thais Mauad joins us at the negotiations to explain the results of her research and convince the negotiators from different countries to draft a strong treaty with a focus on stopping micro and nanoplastic pollution.
SUPPORT OUR APPEAL!
The November negotiations are a unique opportunity to protect the health of future generations. Without firm restrictions on the production of disposable plastics, the current UN treaty draft will have little real impact. We will not let that happen.
Together with leading scientists and other campaigners, we have drafted an alternative treaty. Among other things, our plastics treaty calls for drastic reductions in plastic production starting with disposable plastics and fast fashion and a global ban on toxic additives to plastic. We call for investment in safer materials and alternative reuse systems and clarity that “chemical recycling” is not the solution.
Make sure governments can no longer ignore us, demand systemic change. The agreements we make now determine what our children’s future will look like in 2050.
